Sugarmill Woods / Old Homosassa

You will be hard pressed to find two communities that blend history and modernity better than Old Homosassa and Sugarmill Woods do.

Historic sites and monuments are just minutes away from the foremost demonstrations of luxury and convenience, making this area appealing both to history lovers and those seeking the finer things in life.

Old Homosassa is perhaps best known for the Yulee sugar mill ruins. Built before the Civil War, this sugar plantation, in its heyday, provided food and some necessities to soldiers during the war.

Old Homosassa was once a small fishing village and has maintained the same quiet village charm despite the development of communities like Sugarmill Woods around it.

Sugarmill Woods is a deed restricted community, divided into three neighborhoods: Southern Woods, Oak Village, and Cypress Village. Each village is distinct in its own way, but all maintain a high standard of visual neatness and appeal.

Most of the incredible homes within this community have a golf course view: both the Sugarmill Woods Golf & Country Club course and the Southern Woods Golf & Country Club course offer spectacular fairway and greens views, as well as glimpses of neighboring magnificent homes.

While golf is a popular pastime in this area, there are other activities residents of both communities can enjoy. Just a short drive down the road is the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Thousands of tourists visit each year to view the wide variety of native plant and animal life housed at the park. The most widely visited area of the park, however, is the Fishbowl.

Here, tourists can delve beneath the surface of the Homosassa River, enclosed in a glass dome, and come nose-to-nose with the manatee.

Manatees migrate to these waters each winter, seeking a warm and safe habitat for the season.

In addition to the attraction, there are a number of antique stores, specialty and novelty shops, golf shops, retail stores, and more…all within minutes of home.

The Old Homosassa and Sugarmill Woods area also offers wide selections of great restaurants. There are casual and fine dining restaurants, bistros, cafes, pubs, barbecue eateries, steakhouses, and some of the best seafood houses in the county.
